New York’s Popular Upper East Side Eatery, Southern Hospitality BBQ, Taps Dr. BBQ As New Executive Chef, Adding A Fiery, BBQ Twist
To Its Authentic Memphis-Inspired Southern Fare
(New York, NY – March 28, 2008) --- Southern Hospitality, The popular Memphis-styled BBQ restaurant and bar located on New York’s upper east side, announced today that celebrated BBQ Expert, Ray Lampe, a.k.a “Dr. BBQ,” is serving as the new Executive Chef. Marking Dr. BBQ’s first venture as Executive Chef, he add s new flavor of the south to the already exciting menu offerings. As the new Executive Chef, Dr. BBQ will continue to compete in BBQ contests around the country impressing fellow participants and BBQ lovers alike; however, his new mainstay will be in the kitchen and dining rooms of Southern Hospitality, where patrons can find him greeting guests or flame grilling in the kitchen.
Owner Eytan Sugarman has worked with Dr. BBQ to transform the original menu and introduce several new fire starters (appetizers), such as a Smoked Bologna & Cheese Plate, Spicy Chilled Shrimp, and Deep Fried BBQ Ribs. Dr. BBQ will also roll out new signature main courses such as “Dr. BBQ’s Famous Smoked Bologna Sandwich,” Dry-Rubbed Spareribs, a Grilled Portobello Sandwich for veggie-preferred diners, and a new take on the famous Southern Hospitality Mac & Cheese. Every new dish has been taste-tested by the staff and perfected by Dr. BBQ via its Southern preparation and seasonings.
“We are thrilled to announce this exciting new addition to the Southern Hospitality family, to further enhance our authentic Memphis cuisine, which our restaurant guests have grown to love, as well as those looking for a break amongst NYC dining options,” said Eytan Sugarman, co-owner, Southern Hospitality BBQ.
A few new implementations and adjustments: Tuesdays will now be known as Southern Hospitality’s “Burnt End Day,” consisting of tender slow-smoked chunks of the best cuts of beef brisket, simmered in the restaurant’s new signature BBQ Sauce and Beef Broth. They have also launched a daily happy hour, 4pm-7pm weekdays, featuring $5 frozen margaritas and $3 draft beers.
“Southern Hospitality offers patrons an experience beyond that of a meal via our bright décor, live band performances, friendly atmosphere, cozy ambiance, approachable staff, specialty drinks, and the flat screen televisions around the perimeter, on which we air various sports games nightly” adds Eytan. “Our diners love the new additions to the menu and our new happy hour specials, fully embracing the Southern charm and youthful feeling they are greeted with at Southern Hospitality.”
ABOUT DR. BBQ:
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. BBQ spent 25 years in his family trucking business before shifting careers into a full time BBQ expert. Lampe had been participating and winning cook-offs since 1982. Due to his success, he moved to Lakeland, Florida in 2000 and shifted his focus strictly to the BBQ industry. Lampe has written four cookbooks and is currently working on the fifth. He was also tapped to create the official “NFL Game Day Cookbook” due out this May. Dr. BBQ keeps busy teaching BBQ classes around the country. He also writes a column for Fiery Foods and BBQ Magazines, guest-cooks at various food festivals and distilleries, travels as company Chef for The Big Green Egg Grill and Smoker Company, and is a feature BBQ Chef at The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. Ray is also an expert at the “three-minute meal” and offers a top-ten list of “Tailgating Tips.” Dr. BBQ has been featured as an expert in a bevy of publications and news media ranging from USA Today, Maxim, Food & Wine, CNN, HGTV, Discovery, Chicago Tribune, to The Wall Street Journal, and more.
